tigerbeatpoet is the online moniker of Jen Paulson. She hasn’t flipped through the pages of Tiger Beat in years, and is not much of a poet. However, she knows quite a bit about obsessing over music and musicians, squealing over cute and or badass things and tigerbeatpoet.com is an outlet for the culmination of all this - from her hometown of Minneapolis, to the whole wide world.
I thought I was just going out for drinks and checking out Action vs. Action on Saturday night, but I had no idea what I was really getting myself into. After seeing 7 Days Remain and The Bloody Turncoats do their thing, these dudes in Hawaiian shirts and facepaint would come out and proclaim themselves to be “The world’s most Satanic surf band.” How actually Satanic they really are is up for discussion, but gimmicks aside – they’re completely awesome. Case in point, they did a surf cover of Iron Maiden’s “Run To The Hills,” that made me squeal with glee. Uh, Satanic glee of course!
A video of “Surf, Bloody Surf” taken at the Uptown Bar a few months back…
Their new disc Sentimental City is at the Electric Fetus, Cheapo and Treehouse right now – but their CD Release is December 5th at the 400 Bar… I am so in love with this cover art right now. Can’t wait to give the new record a complete listen. I’m pretty sure I had a Film History class with the lead singer years ago…
Regardless, they are also playing tonight (Saturday, November 28th) in the headlining spot at the Uptown Bar if you make it out.
Yes indeed. Thanksgiving is tomorrow, so you know what that means… Ike Reilly’s annual night-before-thanksgiving show at First Avenue is this evening. The openers are The Alarmists and Little Man. Little Man AND Ike Reilly. C’mon… it’s a perfect combo.
Oh yeah, and did I mention… this really is one of those shows that everyone lets loose at and gets pretty wasted. But hey – what’s better for a hangover than a big huge meaningful meal?? (7:30/18+/$12-$15)
Video after the jump to get you in that drinking, fighting and fucking mood that Reilly tends to put you in.
(The video is actually the intro from AC/DC’s Madison Square Garden show… but trust me when I say this alone was worth at least 20 dollars of the high ticket price)
My ears are still ringing ever-so-slightly from last night’s AC/DC concert. I have been waiting years for this ring, though, so I am accepting it with pride and a certain badge of honor. Because I can check it off my list. And believe me, it’s been on that list for a long time. Say what you will, but AC/DC was, is, and always will be – one of the greatest rock bands of all time.
Yeah, I know you folks with jobs probably don’t feel like this. You know damn well that it’s Friday. So, what is going on tonight? I need to get out there and get my face rocked off in some form or another…
Trampled by Turtles CD Release @ First Avenue – silly band name, but their bluegrass-folk is so fabulous I love them anyways.
Military Special, Gospel Gossip and Ouija Radio at the Hex – If that isn’t a guaranteed recipe for musical whiplash, I don’t know what is…
Dance Band with Lucy Michelle & the Velvet Lapelles – Ok, so it’s the CD Release for Dance Band’s EP Geekadelic, add to that the quirk-folk glory of Lucy Michelle THEN stir it in a pot with birthday awesomeness for man-about-town Jason Koffman, artist Jennifer Sandquist AND local photog Jenn Barnett.
Kid Dakota, Western Fifth & The Evening Rig @ the Uptown Bar – mmm – I like Kid Dakota enough, but Western Fifth and The Evening Rig just sweeten the deal so much. And it’s a quick jaunt from my nerd lair.
The Absent Arch (CD Release) @ the Triple Rock with A Paper Cup Band, The Glad Version, plus – The Chord and The Fawn.
And if that wasn’t enough…
Vampire Hands, Birthday Suits & The Dynamiters @ The Turf Club
How does one even make this decision?? Coin toss? Tea leaves?
It’s really no secret that I love Motley Crue. Sure, they have plenty of misses, but the combination of that Motley folklore, their catalog of dirty L.A./Sunset Strip hits, and my obsessive love of The Dirt made this much-needed rock news for me.
So on this delightfully sunshine-y November morning, I thought I would insert some of my favorite Motley Crue videos after the jump:
Hey, do you want two tickets to see O’Death with Drakkar Sauna and Lucy Michelle & the Velvet Lapelles at the 7th Street Entry on Monday, November 10th? That’s this coming Monday…
