I used to write way more than I do now. Concert reviews, cd reviews – and right when I was starting to get somewhere I took a break. I am very good under pressure in my 9-5 desk job, but not when it comes to my writing. So, I’m making a very conscious effort to be a better writer of online content, or as they say – a blogger. But I’m not going to pressure myself. I am going to be as aware as possible of the weird shit coming out of my mouth – but I am just gonna say what I need to say. Its as simple as that.

I don’t want to be super serious, and I’m realistic – in a non self-pitying way – I don’t forsee ever going to be an actual music critic. Its all in fun. And in the true spirit of a genuine, heart-on-my-sleeve-ranter-slash-complainer.

Outside Content/Mystery Jets/Reviler

Also featuring – my giant floating head. (Yes, I did choose that photo)

I wrote a review of the Mystery Jets new record Seratonin. I don’t think I really understand the ratings system yet, however, I was admittedly pulled in by the 80′s throwback shit. Sue me. Wanna read it? Cool!

synthsynthseratoninsynth: my take.

Thanks to the Reviler.org guys too.

A Little Late.

Just checked my tigerbeatpoet-specific email for the first time in a couple months. Even while typing that sentence I know how bad it is. But what made me open up this little window here and actually tap, tap, tap away was the following comment from late May from one Ed Kohler from The Deets.

“What’s the deal, TBP? Did you hit the apex of your blogging career with Jared Allen’s mullet? If so, understood”

(commented by Ed Kohler, Minneapolis blogger, everyday superhero and well, guy I don’t know super well, stated end of May – and not posted because I just saw it this morning)

Reading this led to a lot of thoughts rumbling through my brain. I mean, I was aware, yet in denial that the post in question that had sat at the top of my abandoned blog was the Jared Allen mullet video opus. And it had been there as my most recent post for just over nine months. Statistic: I have blogged twice on TBP in the past year.

That is by all technical standards a legitimately abandoned blog. I know I am being overdramatic by saying it like this, but an abandoned blog is just sad. In my mind, you either start it up again, or you delete it. I’m not ready to delete it.

So in the upcoming week, I am committing, as much as I can for a girl who’s genuinely been avoiding writing in general – to reintroduce myself.

(I will also be posting tidbits over at my tumblr, Let’s Call it Awesome, where I don’t say a whole lot, but I can get out a lot of the more random randomness. Obviously, if you’re reading this, you know how it goes, rockin’ and rollin’ and what not)

Did you know: Jared Allen was a roadie for Motorhead?

And he is damn serious about the mullet, but that’s not really news. I had to share this – I have seriously watched it five times this morning. Comedy gold, for sure.

Trailer: Where the Wild Things Are

Looks like the trailer for the Spike Jonze-directed film version of the Maurice Sendak masterpiece hit the internet!

October 16th can’t come soon enough. But I’ll wait it out, because contrary to what the thermostat outside says… winter is almost over.

It’s Been Awhile: Jen Buys New Headphones and Reads A Book

bestheadphonesever

Something has happened in the past couple months that has made me vehemently opposed to writing. Not because I dislike it, or because I really don’t want to do it – essentially it’s hard to describe why. But this chart should help:

whyihaventbeenwriting

A: I’m generally lazy

B: Being in front of my computer makes me feel slightly uncomfortable (probably because the more I don’t write, the more unproductive shame I feel, and the more likely I would be to avoid going near any word processing program altogether)

C: I haven’t been especially stimulated by anything new I’ve read or listened to in months (disclaimer: see reason A – aka: I’m not really trying either)

D. I have moved, and I don’t chain smoke cigarettes in my new digs. (What is it about smoking that can make you spend hours and hours in front of a computer screen?)

So, the distraction of that list and pie chart aside – the deal is – I finally picked up a book to read – so I’m slowly but surely working on a return to the internet. Or, writing on it, and waxing obsessively about this and that. This step is surely accelerated by my weekend purchase of a pair of magical Sony v600 headphones. Truthfully, they aren’t in the best cosmetic shape, but they a) came with their original screw-off adapter and b) they sound magical, so the fact that there is shiny black mylar-esque material shredding off is perfectly acceptable.

And you can’t disagree with me if you’ve ever had a pair of these – PLUS even if a pair of these babies makes me look like a giant awkward nerd girl, the perfectly nuanced pleasure that my ears get to experience is one-hundred percent worth it. Even today on the way home from work, as the light rail sped through the Hiawatha city limits and the 21 chugged down Lake Street, I was transported to a completely different place that was blissful and made my one-hour-plus commute seem like a span of time that encompasses the blink of an eye.

And then I sigh dreamily.

Let’s go sing.

Neglect

I’m not neglecting the site on purpose, really. I’ve just been pretty busy. Busy being a worker bee, but that is no excuse for neglecting a blog. I mean, REALLY.

What I have been up to instead of blogging –

1. Learning about the glory of television in Torrent form since me and Comcast broke up
2. Spending lots of time on buses and trains
3. Distracting myself from the dreaded “financial woes”
4. Listening to Feed the Animals by Girl Talk a ridiculous amount of times
5. Getting ready to move out of my beloved apartment

Regular reporting on nonsense shall resume very soon.
